North Carolina CX Series

Well I went to Boone, N.C. today and gots me a little but whippin' handed to me by them N.C. boyz. By far the largest field of Cx'ers I have ever raced with in CX4, 48. These dudes were fast and that's to say the least. I started in the back since I thought I might not have anything left in my legs after Saturdays Fall Fear race. It was the biggest traffic jam after the first straight-away. We got to do one of Dwayne's famous spirals after the first straight. There were riders getting hung in the tape, wrecking, bumping into each other and all kinds of stupid stuff. I just hung back with Mark and Mike for about the first lap then Mark decided to pass and pull out of sight. We kept picking off riders one at a time. There was this huge straight up hill that only the pros and one 12yr old could pedal up, heck it was hard to shoulder or run up it even. I just stayed consistent and rode my pace. I left Mike and then started getting a glimpse of Mark. Each turn I was getting closer. I think the run-up the hill was getting him. There was 3 LONG football field sized straights to ride and the wind was howling up there. In two of them it was a head wind and it SUCKED! The ground was so soft and it took every ounce of energy to keep the cranks turning over on the supple grass. There was also 2 small sand pits that were not bad at all. There were some women dressed up as kitty-cats selling beer from a keg and they nicknamed the one they were near the litter box. Then I caught this dude in a Boone Bike kit. He started brake checking me at every little turn or obstacle. "WTF" I let him know It wasn't appreciated and got another brake check. OK that's how ya wanna play huh?....... I SWITCHED TO MOTOCROSS MODE, its on dude. I stayed where I was at for about 30 more seconds so we could get to this nice tight section that took a left at the top of a climb and dropped about 25 feet in elevation into a hard lefty after about 10yards. I rolled off that hill (no brakes)went straight into his handlebars SHOULDER SLAMMED into him, tore down a stake, ripped the tape to pieces and put homie into a nice dismount. Ummmmm, that's how you take care of problems in Motocross. No more butthead to deal with. I re-focused on catching Mark now. Got up the climb and ran up it to get on his wheel. It took alot out of me and he started pulling me some more. We came around for the final lap and I got his wheel before the big run up. We went up it together and I put a little more into it than he did and I came out on top ahead of him, barely. I laid a nice, fast and smooth cadence down to get me up to the top before the descent into the finish line straight. I caught another Boone Bike guy and passed him in the danish before the descent. I shifted to the hardest gear and let it all hang out! No one reeled me in! Wow I thought I would get caught, but I didn't. Rolled past the start and pulled off and laid down. I was beat! Heart just pounding in my chest. Mark pulled up and did the same. After about 5 minutes Mike rolled in and just smiled. We went and changed clothes, came back and got some PBR from the keg kitty's, picked up a burrito from a local vendor at the track and watched some good racing for about another 2 hours before heading home. 31st overall, Good weekend! Very, Very Good Weekend!
