Our last days ride was going to be The Moab Rim trail, a semi easy trail that climbs up to the opposite side of Moab that slick rock is on. Starting out the guide book shows a 1000 ft climb right out of the parking lot. It didn’t say anything about it being very rocky and would give a jeep a hard time. We made it there and started our ride, sure enough it went straight up. Rocks, rocks and more rocks! Big ones too. After a very long and grueling climb to the top we rested and took in the awesome scenery of Moab. You could see the whole town from up there. It was great. After some picture taking we headed on down the bumpy 4x4 trail and rode back to where we would have to descend the mega rocky climb, but this time it would be downhill all the way to the car. We seen several women hiking this trail too. I rode down the steep boulder infested HOT trail. There was a couple of sections where I had to dismount to get up over some 3ft step up sections that were stained with 4x4 rubber. We arrived at the orange rocketship and there was about 5 jeeps getting ready to do this insane climb. They didn’t look modified enough to make it. They looked like they needed much more ground clearance than they had. We watched as we changed our clothes as they slowly moved out of the parking lot to traverse the dangerous climb. We watched them get vertical in some spots until we couldn’t see them anymore from out vantage spot. We jumped in the car and headed off to find some petroglyphs we had read about. Wasn’t long and we were there. There wasn’t much to them, we took some pics and continued on to find the dinosaur tracks and got off on an exploring jaunt. We took that VW GTI up a 4x4 road so far that I was a nervous wreck driving that thing straddling the gaping ruts. We drove up on a rock that was the size of a small garage that had fell over against a wall making a small triangle tunnel. Angie gets out to see if we will fit and enthusiastically waves me on. Im surprised we fit with the bikes on top of the car. We got within 20yds of the peak and couldn’t get across the rocks that littered the pass at the top……DANG! So we backed up, found a wide spot and turned around. We drove off one of the highest peaks there back to the cabin. It was interesting, lol. We did some shopping had dinner at the Moab Brewery then packed up for the long drive home .
