On the Road Again.............
On the road again! Oh yea Willie said it best…… 1700 long miles home! Its fun going out but I really dread the ride home. I don’t know if its being that the ride is over or knowing that you have to return to work soon. Anywho we left Moab with a nice cappuccino and frozen caramel frappucino in our grubby little mtn bike paws. The car has been running flawlessly since our little debacle on the way to Moab. Fueled and ready to rocket we were gone. That little car rolls nice at 85mph. It was lunch and we were getting hungry and needing fuel so I remembered a small town near “Breck” (that’s Breckenridge for non-skiers) called Frisco. We got fuel, had an awesome lunch at a small quaint little outdoor café that overlooked the mountains and still had quite a bit of snow cover. We got some really nice pics too. We had to stop so Angie could put her feet in the snow in the middle of June and take some pictures, that was fun. There’s a bike path that runs from Vail,Co. all the way to Somewhere near Frisco,Co. in the middle of the interstate median. Its got to be 40 miles I bet. Its either 20 up or down according to which way you ride it. It crosses a major mountain pass. Next time I’m doing it! I know what my next mtn. bike trip is going to be………. Crested Butte, Breck and Fruita , two days each hopefully next year. The weather was great….65 and sunny. Sure as heck beat the 100+ in Moab. We left Cisco after hitting a couple of the LBS’s and getting a deal on a shirt for Angie. Up over the rest of the mountains and down into Denver. Nothing but a straight shot across the prairie. We did see a turned over 18 wheeler that crashed, that’s about it for anything worth mentioning across the prairie other than the thousand gigantic windmills strung out across several miles of nothing land. We made it to Topeka,KS. and called it a night.
We awoke and reloaded the bikes and our overnight bags. We walked into the lobby and seen another cardboard”continental” breakfast. Both looking at each other said” we can do better”. We drove about a mile down the street and oh yes…….Panera Bread! Yum. We placed our order to go and we were off. We had a date with the St. Louis Arch! We got there a little later than we wanted. We talked to a lady at the ticket booth and found out it takes a lot longer than we had planned to check this out, especially with the lines of tourists that were there. We took some pictures and reluctantly decided to head on to the house since it was going to be at least midnight for our ETA. We took some cool pictures and downtown St.Louis was very cool. Lots of café street restaurants right on the curb. We were not hungry so we got on out of there. I didn’t like leaving the bikes locked on the roof in the middle of a parking lot with no cable lock on them in the middle of a national metropolitan city. Got out of St.Louis before rush and back to truckin’. Im typing most of all these last two blogs in the car while shes driving somewhere in Nashville. Im looking forward to getting home. Austin’s got a baseball game tomorrow if it doesn’t get rained out. Can’t wait to see him! I had a most wonderful biking vacation with the BEST girlfriend in the universe and look forward to many more with her.
Later G.....................
