Ever since I took the position as trail steward ((t) for AC - inside joke) I have really enjoyed working in the woods every week. I average 8-10 hrs in University Woods weekly and love it. I've yet to have a break since the storm rolled through and I think I've actually put almost 40 hrs in the last two weeks alone. Glad I don't have a 9-5 job or this would be near impossible. Over these past few weeks I have been inundated with calls and messages offering thanks and assistance on the ETSU trail system. People don't even know how great a feeling that is. I tell them no, thank you! The older I get, with the kiddos being grown, I look for a sense of purpose in a way. My passion is cycling, any kind, and I love giving back to a sport/lifestyle that's given me so much throughout my life. The more people we can get to discover the passion of cycling the more fun we'll all have!
I think I've done most that I'm going to do to short track this season. The past few days we've installed a bad-ass 4X starting gate, finished cleaning up the XC trails and completed all the final touches on the short track course. The double jump is about 1ft higher now, braaaaaappppp! I've also added a hip jump over the ditch to aid the peeps that wanna 'go for it' and now that there's a disc golf course running through ST peeps have knocked down much of the brush in the wooded section so that I could run ST through the woods adding single track to our sweet little course. I've always wondered why the one lower section stays wet a lot too, today I understand why, there's a spring spewing water out of the ground with good pressure from all the rain we've had in our area. This is one of the reasons I ran the course through the woods solving this problem. Below we normally bear right..... now, we plow right into the woods and hug a huge oak tree turning right around it.
mini hip........
lower single track portion.... The ditch was deepest here but I was able to find several logs and rock to fill most of it in. You'll still need to climb up and out at least 16"+ Hopefully with all the practice weeks we have left it'll get ridden in well.
This is my "Thinking Man" pose below....................................
The gate............ I think bad-ass is the best adjective here...
I've never used any of these anchor bolts until we installed the anchor arm mechanism. That darn hammer drill vibrated my joints to death! I'm still sore.
That's about all for now. I have a ton of crap to say about the tour but I'll hold off for another day.
